What you can do in Fukuoka
If you are only here for a few days
Most people reading this page live here. If you are visiting, you do not need lessons. You need about eighty words, and you need to know the order things happen in at a yatai.
There is a free page for exactly that. Pick the situation you are standing in, the hotel, a taxi, the convenience store, a stall in Nakasu, an onsen, and you get the words for it, with audio you can play out loud. No account, no payment, nothing to install.

Where do people at the meetup come from?
Japan, of course, and the United States, Switzerland, Taiwan, Korea, Spain, South Africa, the Philippines, Romania, Canada, India, Italy, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Russia, Indonesia, and more. Everyone there is based in Fukuoka and building something here, which is what makes the conversations worth having.
Do I need to speak Japanese to come to the meetup?
No. People come at every level, including people who speak almost none. Board game nights exist partly for that reason: you play first, and the talking takes care of itself.
How much does it cost?
The regular gatherings at the café are 100 yen plus one drink order. Other events vary with the plan. A movie outing, for example, means paying for your own ticket.
How do I join?
It is invite-only. Reach out through LINE, Instagram, or Facebook. We share the next date and the exact place there.
When and where do you meet?
Usually on Saturdays around 2 PM, at a restaurant in Hakata that we book out entirely. Some days we go to a café or out to the beach instead. We share the name and location of the place on LINE.
What language do people speak?
Japanese or English, whichever you want to speak.
I would rather not be in photos.
We sometimes post event photos on social media. If you would rather not appear, just tell us on the day. Photos can also be taken down after they are posted.
Can I leave if it is not for me?
Yes, anytime.
