Why a JLPT certificate is not enough
- The JLPT is held twice a year, so there is no way to measure someone at the moment you need to decide.
- The certificate in front of you can be up to half a year old, and Japanese moves in half a year — in both directions.
- It tests reading and listening only. It never asks the candidate to speak or to write a single line of Japanese.
If you are at a school
The same assessment works for Japanese language schools and universities. Two ways it fits:
Placing students in classes
Measure where each student actually is at intake, or at the start of a term. The JLPT is held twice a year, so when you need to place someone in April there is no current number to place them by — this gives you one, measured that week.
Supporting students into work
For students who want to work in Japan, this puts their speaking and their grasp of keigo and hou-ren-sou in writing before they sit an interview. Parts 2 and 3 are what an employer would look at, so the student can see what a company will see.
What you receive
One written report per person, from us, based on the diagnostics they take. Three parts:
1. Level, in JLPT terms
Where they sit against the JLPT scale right now, measured this month rather than read off a certificate from last year.
2. Whether they work in a Japanese workplace
Keigo, hou-ren-sou, business manners, and the unwritten habits of a Japanese office — the part that decides whether the team around them can actually work with them.
3. Notes on their speaking
How they actually sound: what they can carry on their own, where they stall, and what a manager should expect in the first three months.

When you get them: Reports are delivered as each person finishes: within 3 business days for up to 9 people; within 5 business days for 10–29 people; for 30 people or more, on a schedule we agree with you.

The prices above are per person from one person up. For 10 people or more it comes down to $55 per person, and for 30 or more to $45 per person. There is no separate corporate rate: one person costs the same whether an individual or a company buys it.
