One-on-one lessons, built around where you actually are. New students take a short placement test before their first session, so your lessons are shaped by your real level and goals from day one. Whether you’re working toward JLPT (N5–N1), business Japanese for your current job, or job-hunting Japanese for interviews, the plan is customized to get you there, using original materials built for practical, real-world use, with attention to the vocabulary and communication nuances of engineering and corporate environments.
Included with every lesson: unlimited diagnostic tests. A single lesson (30 or 60 min) makes every test on the site free for a week, and the 6-session package keeps them free for three months. There is no daily cap, so you can retake them as often as you like and watch your level move.

Japan Career Strategy Sessions, add-ons, and market entry consulting
Teaches in: Japanese · English
I run this program, and I lead the Japan Career Strategy Sessions myself. I grew up in Japan, and until my late teens it was the only world I knew. At the start of my junior year of high school I moved to Oklahoma, partly to play basketball at a higher level and partly to see more of the world.
From there I attended Central Christian College in Kansas before transferring to San Diego State University, where I studied Business Management. After graduating I built my career across the U.S., including stretches in Los Angeles, Oklahoma, and West Virginia. By 2022 I had spent exactly 17 years in the United States, the same number of years I had spent growing up in Japan. That balance felt like the right moment to bring everything back home, and I’ve been based in Fukuoka ever since.
That’s the perspective behind every session: I’ve been the outsider learning a system from the inside, and I know how Japanese hiring, workplaces, and unspoken rules actually work. Career strategy, resume and LinkedIn positioning, interview preparation, and market entry consulting are the parts I handle personally.

Japanese lessons and English lessons
Teaches in: Japanese · English · Sinhala
Naoko teaches both the Japanese and the English lessons. Her background spans international cooperation and cross-border recruitment, including work with the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), UN-related organizations, and recruitment for Japanese companies operating overseas. She has sat on the hiring side of the table, so she knows what Japanese employers are actually listening for.
She holds a degree from North Central College and spent years living in the U.S. That combination is what lets her bridge English-speaking logic and Japanese business etiquette, rather than simply translating between the two: she can explain not just what to say, but why a Japanese counterpart hears it the way they do.
Her lessons run from N5 through N1, business Japanese, and JLPT preparation, built on original materials with particular attention to the vocabulary and communication nuances of engineering and corporate environments. She can teach in English or Sinhala as well as Japanese, so learners from a range of backgrounds are welcome.
Each service lists its main instructor. If you’d prefer to work with a different instructor, just let us know through the contact form and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Thinking about the other direction, studying or working in the U.S.? I moved there alone at 17 and spent 17 years as a student and then an employee, from high school through a university transfer to jobs in Los Angeles and West Virginia. That fits in the same session; just mention it when you book.
Included with the session: three months of unlimited diagnostic tests. Every test on the site (Japanese level, keigo, job interview, business culture, English level, and the rest) is free for you for three months afterwards, with no daily cap. Handy when we set a target for your Japanese and you want to watch it move.

Three arm surgeries, then the back, shoulder, hip, and a torn meniscus. I kept getting back up, and at 172cm I keep going after the dunk. Everything I built through that rehab and training becomes a monthly program written around your goal and where you are right now.
